Chistopher Makos Polaroids

This just in from Clic Gallery..."Clic Gallery East Hampton is proud to present the summer show CHRISTOPHER MAKOS POLAROIDS featuring original SX-70 Polaroids shot in the 70s and 80s. Christopher Makos was a seminal figure in the downtown art scene as well as a close friend and collaborator with Andy Warhol, and these are his revealing snapshots of friends and lovers, shot at parties at Studio 54 and during lazy days out in the Hamptons."
The show will run from August 3rd until September 6th, 2010 at Clic's East Hampton location on Newtown Lane.

1st Dibs Finds

I was in the Brown Jordan showroom the other day and spotted the Sol y Luna High Back Barstool, an adaptation of Dan Johnson’s Gazelle Collection from 1954. What a beautiful chair he designed! I went looking and found these originals on 1st Dibs.

The Gazelle Collection was "originally offered in wood or bronze, both with woven caning for the seat and back. However, due to the high cost of production, and the intense hand labor involved, fewer than 150 pieces from the Gazelle line were ever produced. Now made in durable cast aluminum by outdoor manufacturer Brown Jordan, the design maintains Johnson’s comfortable organic form. Made in Mexico."~DWR

I love finding out the sources of fab stuff! Like the The Official Manufacturing Co. They've made lots of rad things like the signage and key cards for the Ace Hotel.

Elizabeth Patterson

I'm pretty intrigued by the fact that artist Elizabeth Patterson created these "rainscape drawings" with color pencil and graphite. Whoa.

Magica Chair

I do like a simple and innovative design. And well, this sure is both. Magica Chair by Davide Conti.

Cavo Tagoo

Oh, thanks style files for this one! Cavo Tagoo on Mykonos, Greece just opened in May of this year. Built into a cliffside and designed with "contemporary minimalist island aesthetic while remaining true to the traditional character and architecture of the Cycladic Islands". nice.

I have T. Anthony luggage now and I have to admit I'm kinda over it. I've had to replace a pull and the teeth on the zipper are already jammed and it's not even that old. I think I'm going for these next. I love the design.
TITAN® hard-shell cases are made of 100% pure, virgin Polycarbonate, which allows for lighter and more durable travel gear. Cool, right?

Round Up...

I remember my parents bedroom walls from the late 70's wallpapered in a photo mural of a forest. And as much as I liked it then, I have to admit I still like the idea now, especially these. Here's a few places you can get them and even do custom from your own photo.

Hudson Chalkboard Paint

Hudson Paint Chalkboard Paint comes in lots of colors. FUN.

Simply Scandinavian

I found another design book to add to my library, "Simply Scandinavian" written by Sara Norrman. The 20 homes featured showcase various styles using modern design classics mixed with vintage and antiques pieces all in light and airy spaces. The interiors highlight the use of natural materials which is a trait of the " Scandi " style, all done in an understated elegance.

Grass Ottoman

I think my little guy would love these all around.

A.P.C. + Aesop

I do have a thing for simple Black and White branding and product design (maybe you could already tell).

"Collaborating with Aesop chemists, French label A.P.C. have created an effective alternative to dry cleaning, by producing this delicate soap entitled “Fine Fabric Care”, designed specifically for the most delicate of garments. The solution contains extracts of Pettigrain, Lemon and Cedarwood and has been produced in the same way as Aesop’s skin and body products." ~hypebeast

au revoir

Still feeling kinda Frenchy. I posted this ages ago on my Facebook page and thought of it once again this week. It's a pretty cool 5 year time lapse video with animation of Serge Gainsbourg's home in Paris and the graffiti that covers it.
When your done checking that out, I highly recommend downloading the hubby's Bastille Day radio show for a listen. It's GOOD!
Have a lovely weekend. See you Monday.

Arts and Architecture

A selection of some really great Arts and Architecture magazine covers.
Arts and Architecture (1929-1967) was an American design, architecture, landscape and arts magazine published and edited by John Entenza from 1940-1962 and David Travers from 1962-1967. It was the leader in bringing attention to American architecture and in particular California Modernism. Of special note is the magazine’s sponsorship of the design-build-Case Study Houses publication program.
