BritWeek

Today I caught "Salute to British Design" over at the Pacific Design Center featuring Interior Designers Nina Campbell, Peter Dunham, Kathryn M. Ireland and one of my faves, Martyn Lawrence Bullard. It was quite interesting hearing their take on British design and a common thread that most British designers seem to possess; designing for comfort.
I wanted to share some fab pieces from Martyn's Furniture and Fabric Collection inspired by his travels abroad. LOVE.

Hotel Boca Chica

I'm a fan of The Habita Group of Hotels in Mexico so when I received an email from them earlier last week announcing their latest in Acapulco, Hotel Boca Chica, I went searching for the website to check it out. Unfortunately it wasn't up yet. Well it's up now....and looks refreshingly cool. Designed by Frida Escobedo and José Rojas, the rehabilitated Mid Century hotel was featured in the 1963 film with Elvis Presley, “Fun in Acapulco.”
Arrive by water taxi, check into your retro-glamorous room with amazing views, get a massage at the spa, chill at the open air bar, dine on sushi and then get your party on at "Coco Wash", the in-house disco. Sounds pretty safe to me.

Eames Demetrios

I've been reading over the past few days how Herman Miller along with Eames Demetrios have released two new bases and four new colors to the Eames Molded Plastic Chairs. I thought "ok that nice," but when I saw this gorgeous photo that swiss miss posted, it made me jump!

Rosa Muerta

Located in the desert at Joshua Tree, Rosa Muerta was designed and hand-built by Los Angeles based architect Robert Stone. This all black modern architectural stunner with its mirrored ceiling tiles, hearts and flower details, and no heating or air conditioning was ultimately inspired by his punk rock roots and traditional Japanese construction.
You must also see Acido Dorado, his other jewel in gold. Go to Pretty Vacant Properties to find out more.

Shop the Store : : SK1

This past weekend we took a drive out west towards the beach and hit up Abbot Kinney to pick up coffee for the house at Intelligentsia (probably the best in the world...I'm not kidding!) and do some window shopping. In between getting some lunch from the food trucks and dealing with MAJOR temper tantrums from our 1 1/2 yr. old, we came across the SK1 Furniture showroom.
Made of powder coated steel, aluminum and re-purposed wood, this line really pops! "Keeping production close to home, the line is realized through an environmentally low impact production process." I think my favorite is the chrome and burlap Negril One Chair. Check em' out.

Standard

I just love this table designed by Standard design firm for the Jenni Kayne Boutique in Hollywood. The Los Angeles based architecture and design partnership of architects Jeffrey Allsbrook and Silvia Kuhle have done some really nice work in and out of town including the James Perse spaces that I really dig.

Jibibuts are these blind assortment of toys made from sustainable wood, created by the artist duo Noferin. Love Stella Im Hultberg's sculpted face and shell seen above. Trousdale Estate

Found these pics at OVER THE TOP, the Architectural History of Trousdale Estates, Beverly Hills Facebook page. They are of a classic, early Trousdale home recently re-designed by the phenomenal Brad Dunning. Located on Loma Vista Drive, this house will be featured in an upcoming coffee table book on the architectural and social history of Trousdale Estates in Beverly Hills, California. Looking forward to seeing more of this one!

**UPDATE** I ended up at this house for a friend's baby shower. It seemed so familiar. Took me a while to figure out that I had posted it on Design*ByProxy maybe 6 months prior to being there. These pics don't do it justice. The interior was completed and it was FAB!
